In the simply quiet exercise you learn to use silence to become familiar with where you awareness is moving and how fast it is moving. There is no right or wrong, just you and a bit of silence in which you get to follow your mind. In the silence, you mind will likely be switching between two states: (1) operative, and (2) contemplative. You can do this completely internal (and usually with your eyes closed) or you can do this while you are still aware of your surroundings (with your eyes open and reacting to external components).
This is part of the mind management skill set in 2Mynds, in particular the first R (R1) of the 5R approach: Realize. You will be introduced to this in the First Steps e-learning program and in the R1 program you can learn about this in more detail.
