Why is this something for you?
Most athletes, performers and their coaches believe that mental aspects, not physical ones are what separate the good from the great performers. Many will say that the ultimate mental goal for their performance, is to perform ‘in the zone’ (‘out of their mind’, ‘lights out’, etc) when that’s needed most. However, when asked what that really means and what they are doing to achieve that kind of control, systematic functional mental training is usually not among the answers. There are a few reasons for that…
First of all, there is a problem with the image of mental fitness. It is by most perceived as something that can be achieved passively, with good advice, reading books, watching videos, of simply being exposed to competition over and over. On top of that, it is often seen as something you ‘fix’ when you feel it’s not right. We believe nothing could be further from the truth: mental fitness is only for a small part about understanding and for the most part about specific skills, and development of those skills should be part of regular training!
The last issue is that when people say they do mental training, they may actually do very little functional training. Training means you develop skills through repetitive and progressive exercises. If you only do an exercise once, or it is not part of a progression it is not really training. Not all activities are training. Getting to know yourself, trying to figure out what your challenges are, or setting targets are all important preparations for training, but they are not training themselves. And if there are actual exercises that progress in preset steps, if they don’t translate to the activity you do them for, the training is not functional. That means that even many mental coaches don’t really provide training for functional mental fitness.
The 2Mynds mission is to change the paradigm of mental fitness training from theoretical or passive to functional and active and provide everyone with the systematic tools to train their mental skills in a functional way. If you are a performer or competitor or if you are supporting a competitor or performer as a parent or coach, we have the resources for you to train your mental fitness skills. A final, personal note
2Mynds was created by me and it reflects years of experience in martial arts, meditation, physical therapy, and health sciences. A lot of people inspired me and have helped me along the way. Although to some extent this is my creation, most of the time I feel I am just channeling the inspiration and knowledge that was shared with me and I am merely passing it on. Because it is based on profound knowledge and experience, 2Mynds is not a bag of tricks. It will take effort to learn and apply it, but if you decide to join the movement, I promise you will start a rewarding journey of which the benefits will go beyond your sports. If you haven’t done so already, register for free to try it out.
